5th Grade Orientation Details - Wednesday, August 26, 1-2:30pm
Hello 5th Grade Families!
We hope this email finds you well. On Wednesday, August 26, Wayne Middle School (WMS) will be hosting our 5th Grade Summer Orientation for incoming students. This is a voluntary event, so if your student cannot attend, please do not worry!
We will start the student-only event at 1:00-2:30pm at WMS.
Our 5th Grade Summer Orientation aims to:
Welcome our 5th graders to the school and help settle any nerves about their transition to the school. We will have 7th, 8th, & 9th grade student leaders show our incoming 5th graders around the school and they will be there to answer any questions for our new students.
Give 5th graders a tour of where their classes will be located. Our student leaders will walk the 5th graders through their schedule.
Help students locate and practice opening their lockers.
Show students how to go through the cafeteria line.
Student drop-off will begin around 12:40 p.m. in the front bus loop. We will have staff members outside to help direct traffic. ******As you turn into WMS, please drive on the inner-campus road straight between the school and the bus garage, take a left into the lot at the south end of the building, and loop back up toward Door 20.******
At the conclusion of the event, around 2:30 p.m., students are welcome to show their families around the school until 3:30 p.m. or head home with them.
Families: Please work out details with your child on how pick-up time will look. Families are welcome to come into the building to find their children, or families can talk to their child about where to look for you following the event.
🚗 Parking lots are located between the MS and HS, in the front, and on the south end of the building
Please note the front lot is likely to fill up quickly!
We will end the event with a grade-level ice cream social in the cafeteria! The plan is to serve students (free of charge) a cold ice-cream treat. We will also have dairy-free/gluten free options for students, as well!
Where will I find my child’s course schedule? WMS will send student schedules through the mail on August 14, and families will be able to log into Schooltool (link) to view student schedules on August 14.
What if my child is unable to attend the orientation? No problem! Your family can attend the Welcome Walk Days on August 27 and 28 (11am-2pm).
Will the building be open for students and parents to prepare lockers and walk the schedule before the first day of school? Yes! Your family can attend the Welcome Walk Days on August 27 and 28 (11am-2pm). If you have other needs, please contact the main office at 315-524-1080.
