Outside Food And Drink Guidelines
Outside Food and Drink Guidelines
Food & Drink Guidelines
At Wayne Middle School, we are committed to creating a safe, instruction‑focused environment for all students. The following food and drink guidelines help minimize distractions, protect students with food allergies, and promote a calm, equitable school experience.
School Meals
- Breakfast (grab‑and‑go) and lunch are free for all students.
- Students may get free lunch through the lunch line
- Second lunches and à la carte items may be purchased for an additional fee.
Outside Food & Drinks (Morning & Lunch)
Families are kindly asked not to send students to school with outside food or drinks. This includes delivering food from restaurants for lunch.
This includes:
- Restaurant or take‑out food (e.g., McDonald’s, pizza, fast food)
- Morning drinks from coffee shops (e.g., Dunkin’, Starbucks)
- Donuts or specialty breakfast items
Why this is important:
- Outside food can contain allergens that may impact student safety.
- Restaurant lunches and specialty foods are highly distracting in the cafeteria and classroom (i.e., students moving around the lunchroom for samples of the food).
- When students bring in restaurant food for lunch, it often leads other students to feel pressure to do the same the following day, creating repeated disruptions.
- Outside foods can also be messy and disruptive to the cafeteria environment.
For these reasons, students should eat school‑provided meals or home‑packed lunches that are prepared at home and sent in with the student. We ask that any outside breakfast or drinks be consumed before entering the building. Our goal is to have students focused and ready for instruction by 7:35 a.m.
Energy Drinks
Energy drinks are not permitted at school due to their high caffeine and sugar levels, which can negatively impact students’ focus, behavior, and well‑being.
Thank You for Your Cooperation
