WMS Updates: Homecoming, Supervision, Arrival/Dismissal, Medications, A-F Schedule

Posted Date: 09/20/26 (10:30 AM)

Dear WMS Families,

We hope everyone is having a restful weekend! We had a tremendous turnout for our Open House night last week (link to pictures). It was wonderful to see so many families and teachers connecting to support our students’ growth.

If you attended the Open House session last week, please consider letting us know how it went from your perspective by completing this form (link). We want to continually improve how we work with our families!

Here are a few important updates and reminders:

🚨🏈⚽ PARENT/GUARDIAN SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS DURING ATHLETIC/AFTER-SCHOOL EVENTS: We always welcome WMS students to attend modified, junior varsity, and varsity athletic events throughout the school year. However, any student in grades Pre-K–8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18 for the entire duration of an event. Event supervisors are present to manage crowd safety and facilitate the event rather than supervise unattended students. We appreciate your support in keeping student safety a top priority. Thank you!

  • 🦅🦅Community Parade & Football Game, September 25🦅🦅:

    • The community Homecoming Parade will start from Fireman's Field at 5:30 PM and end at the turf football field between the MS and HS.

    • Football Game Kickoff is at 7:00 PM. As a reminder, middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. We hope you and your family can join us for the fun evening events!

💊 Medication Drop-Off Procedures

To keep all students safe and comply with state health regulations, all medications must be dropped off directly with the school nurse. You may contact the nurse by emailing Ms. Frink (sfrink@waynecsd.org) or calling to set up an appointment at 315-521-1084.

  • Students may NOT bring in medications on their own. Medications must be dropped off by caregivers.

  • Only the school nurse, a registered nurse, can accept medications.

  • Administrators, secretaries, teachers, and students may NOT accept or transport medications.

  • Please contact the nurse in advance to schedule a drop-off time.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and organized process!

Drop-off/Pick-up procedures:

Our Director of Safety and Security sent an update about drop-off and pick-up procedures on Friday. Safety and security of our students and staff is always a priority. One simple way families can help us maintain a safe school environment is by following our arrival and dismissal procedures.

  • For arrival and dismissal, we ask families NOT to line up in the school parking lot more than 30 minutes before dismissal. Having vehicles waiting in the parking lot while students and staff are still in the building creates an additional security concern and can make it more difficult for us to monitor activity around the school. 🕑🕑

  • 🚌 3:00 and 4:00 bus runs (link): If your child is not sure which bus they should get on for the afternoon, please refer to this document.

  • 2:20pm dismissal:  We will dismiss our students riding the bus at 2:12pm. Once buses are leaving, we will dismiss our students getting picked up by families. Please line up along the side-staff lot (between the south-end of the school and the bus garage). Please create TWO LANES of cars at this time. Once buses leave, cars may safely meet their students in the front bus loop.

  • 3:00pm and 4:00pm pick-up: If you are picking up your child after extracurricular activities, please remember to drive safely, be patient, and create a SINGLE LANE at this time. We want to avoid any incidents where children are walking out to get picked up!

We appreciate your help in keeping our school environment safe and secure. If you have any questions or concerns about our arrival or dismissal procedures, please feel free to contact me directly or reach out to our Director of Security.

Safety Drills

There are several types of emergency drills practiced across the district to help prepare staff and students for potential situations. During the first weeks of school, we review the different types of safety drills we conduct. We will continue our fire drills this week and aim to complete several by the end of October. These drills are an important part of ensuring that all students and staff know how to respond quickly and safely in an emergency. We encourage you to talk with your student(s) about the purpose of these drills and to reinforce the importance of safety and preparedness. To learn more about safety drills and preparedness in our schools, click here: Safety & Security Website (link).

A-F Schedule Rotation (Link): Last week we had some questions from families about which day it was. For your convenience, this information is located on our website. Please note that if we have a school closure, we skip the day missed and continue on as scheduled.

Thank you for your support! As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school. If you’re unsure of who to contact, our school website (link) has a clear guide to help you connect with the right person.

Sincerely,

Kevin Page, Principal
