Hello 5th Grade Families!

We hope this email finds you well. On Thursday, August 21, Wayne Middle School (WMS) will be hosting our 5th Grade Summer Orientation for incoming students. This is a voluntary event, so if your student cannot attend, please do not worry! 

We will start the student-only event at 1:00-3:00pm at WMS, and it should last about 2 hours. Student drop-off can happen along the side lot and front bus loop starting at approximately 12:40pm. Once the event ends around 3pm, students are welcome to show their families around the school until 4pm or go home with their families. 

Our 5th Grade Summer Orientation aims to:

• Welcome our 5th graders to the school and help settle any nerves about their transition to the school. We will have 8th grade student leaders show our incoming 5th graders around the school and they will be there to answer any questions for our new students.

• Give 5th graders a tour of where their classes will be located. Our 7th & 8th grade student leaders will walk the 5th graders through their schedule.

• Help students locate and practice opening their lockers.

• Show students how to go through the cafeteria line.

We will end the event with a grade-level Ice cream social in the cafeteria! The plan is to serve students (free of charge) an ice cream-cookie sandwich. We will also have dairy-free/gluten free options for students, as well!  

Where will I find my child’s course schedule? WMS will send student schedules through the mail on August 15, and families will be able to log into Schooltool (link) to view student schedules on August 18.  We will also have printed copies for students on Orientation Day.

What if my child is unable to attend the orientation? No problem! Your family can attend the Welcome Walk Days on August 22 and 25 (8am-3pm).  

Will the building be open for students and parents to prepare lockers and walk the schedule before the first day of school? Yes! Your family can attend the Welcome Walk Days on August 22 and 25 (8am-3pm). If you have other needs, please contact the main office at 315-524-1080.
