Ontario-Walworth Rotary Club Donates Dictionaries to Every Wayne Elementary Third Grader

Posted Date: 12/02/25 (12:30 PM)

On November 25, the Ontario-Walworth Rotary Club continued its longstanding tradition by presenting every third-grade student at Wayne Elementary School with their very own dictionary. This year, 140 third graders received a personal copy, a gift that supports the Rotary’s mission to promote literacy and foster a love of learning among young students.

The annual donation is part of the Rotary’s broader commitment to education and community service. By providing students with a tangible resource they can use both in and out of the classroom, the club aims to empower children with tools that strengthen vocabulary, reading comprehension, and curiosity.

During the visit, students eagerly flipped through their new dictionaries—skimming pages, exploring new words, and even looking up the definition of literacy itself. Many also enjoyed searching for the longest word in the English language, adding an element of fun and discovery to the experience.

Wayne Central School District is grateful for the Ontario-Walworth Rotary Club’s continued dedication to its students and their educational growth. Their generosity reinforces the importance of community partnerships in supporting literacy and lifelong learning.
