T.C.A. Wayne Middle School

If your student will be absent, please call 315-524-1084 and leave a message with the reason for the absence.

If no call is received, any student marked absent by a teacher will automatically trigger a call to the parent contact numbers, notifying the parent that the student is absent.

It is important to contact the attendance number to give a reason for the absence.

All unverified absences or absences called in without a reason being given will be considered unexcused.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

  • When a student is to be absent from school or class, the parent/guardian must contact the school nurse’s office to report the absence.
  • Parents/guardians are expected to work collaboratively with school personnel to attend meetings and respond to attendance concerns.

Medication Drop Off Procedures

💊Medication Drop-Off Procedures💊

To keep all students safe and to comply with state health regulations, all medications must be dropped off directly with the school nurse. Our nurse is responsible for administering daily medications and monitoring students with health conditions, so it is important to schedule a time to meet with her.

Please note:

  • Only the school nurse, who is a registered nurse, can accept medications from parents/guardians.

  • Administrators, secretaries, teachers, and students may not accept or transport medications at any time.

  • If you need to drop off medication, please contact the nurse in advance to arrange a time that works for both you and the nurse.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and organized process for all students!

Who to Contact

At Wayne Middle School, we deeply value open and honest dialogue between parents, students, and staff. We understand that instances where one person's child is mean to another person's child can cause distress, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to both students and families. By reaching out to us directly, we can work together to address concerns promptly, implement appropriate interventions, and foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

We encourage you to utilize the established communication channels we have in place to report incidents, share your concerns, or seek guidance. Our dedicated team of educators and support staff is readily available to listen, offer assistance, and take appropriate action as needed.

Below are a series of steps you should follow to bring the matter to our attention so it can be resolved:

  1. Talk directly to the staff member involved (i.e., teacher) - Speak directly to the adult involved. This gives them an opportunity to clear up any misunderstandings or miscommunications.
  2. Reach out to the Counseling Office or Assistant Principals - If you feel that the person involved did not handle your concern appropriately, or there isn't a specific person attached to your concern, please contact the Counseling Office or an Assistant Principal. Our counselors and administrators will help work through issues with students or adults.
  3. Contact the Principal - If you still feel the issue has not been handled or resolved, contact the Principal.

Are you worried about someone's immediate safety? Please call 911 to report your concern!

Wayne Middle School believes that all students have a right to a safe, secure, and healthy school environment. Our school, with support from our school district and community, is committed to promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance.

You can help! Students/Parents can take part in keeping our school safe by informing adults if you feel something does not seem right. There is nothing to be ashamed about by reporting or “telling” on someone to an adult if another student has emotionally or physically hurt you, someone you know, or someone you have observed being a victim. In most situations, this can be done confidentially. Below you will find useful information on how to let someone know.

One can Say Something by any of the following means:

  • Telling a teacher
  • Telling your counselor
  • Telling someone in the office
  • Telling the Assistant Principal or Principal
  • Telling a parent
  • Making a DASA report
  • Contacting the Safe School Hotline (see below)
  • If an emergency, calling 911.

The Safe School Hotline

Wayne Central provides an educational environment where students can feel safe as they learn. The district is enrolled in Safe School Helpline to help us address any threats or immediate concerns about student safety. It is designed to assist you in reporting any wrongdoing that may impact our schools, our students, or our staff. You may choose to report anonymously to protect your privacy. Please know, however, that the system is monitored, and if abused, confidentiality won't be protected.

The three methods in which to report are (this service is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week):

  • Calling 1-800-4-1-VOICE, ext. 359
  • Texting the word "TIPS" to 614-426-0240
  • Web reporting online at safe school helpline

The company also has introduced the Safe School Helpline app, available for both Apple and Android devices. This app quickly gives users all three options for reporting valuable information.

Callers are able to reconnect with the agency to be advised as to what actions were taken on their information.

In most cases, the company sends the district transcripts of calls they receive the next day. However, if the matter is urgent, school officials are contacted immediately, day or night.

For more information on Safe School Helpline, please visit their website at safe school helpline.

Please remember, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

Dignity for All Students

Wayne Central School District is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment free from violence, harassment, bullying or discrimination. The District encourages the involvement of staff, students, parents and community members in the implementation and reinforcement of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA). If you believe you, someone else, or a school, has been the target of harassment, bullying, cyberbullying, or discrimination, or you have concerns about a student, please contact school administrators so they can address the issue. You may also complete DASA reports online:  use this form to report all allegations.

Request for Assistance (RFA) – Wayne Middle School

At Wayne Middle School, we are committed to helping every student thrive. Through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we work together—school and family—to identify concerns early and respond with the right level of support.

👨‍👩‍👧 For Families: What to Do if You're Concerned About Your Child

We strongly encourage family-school collaboration. This may include a phone call, meeting, or conference with the teacher(s) to share ideas and create a plan together. If initial interventions are not effective, contact your child’s school counselor, they are your connection to a larger support system. The counselor will connect with your child’s team of teachers to consider increasing support through more targeted or intensive approaches (Tier 2 or Tier 3).

Here’s how it works:

  1. Connect with the teacher and/or counselor to talk through your concerns.

  2. If needed, the counselor will share the information with our MTSS team.

  3. The team—made up of teachers, counselors, administrators, and specialists—will review your child’s strengths and needs.

  4. Together, we’ll determine whether additional strategies or interventions are appropriate.

Strong partnerships between families and schools are essential for student success. Don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

🧑‍🏫How Do Staff Identify Students Who May Need Support?

Our teachers and staff are constantly observing and collecting information on student progress. If a student is struggling despite the typical supports provided to all students (known as Tier 1), staff may begin the process of requesting additional help.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Teachers try in-class strategies and document what’s been done (like reteaching, small group work, behavior supports, or check-ins). Families are contacted to share what is being observed and to partner to formulate interventions/next-steps.

  2. If concerns continue, the teacher connects with a school counselor or administrator to share observations.

  3. The concern is brought to the MTSS team, where student strengths, needs, and data are reviewed.

  4. The team decides what kind of support is most appropriate and monitors the student's progress over time.

Our MTSS process is designed to ensure no student falls through the cracks, and that every learner receives the right level of support at the right time.
