5th Grade Parent Night Summary
WMS building leaders held an informational night for our 4th-grade families as they prepare to transition their children to WMS next school year!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent 5th Grade Parent Information Night. It was a pleasure connecting with many of you as we look ahead to your child’s transition to Wayne Middle School.
For those who were unable to attend, we’ve linked the presentation slides for your reference. We hope they offer insight into what to expect next year and help you feel confident as your child prepares to join our school community!
Below is a quick summary of the key information we covered:
- Our Team: Experienced teachers, counselors, and administrators dedicated to supporting each child.
- Daily Schedule: 8-period day, lunch with recess, activity period after school. Fifth grade students will be placed in cohorts and will travel together throughout the school day. In middle school, there are 7-8 class transitions throughout the day, depending on your students’ schedule.
- Classrooms & Lockers: 5th graders primarily stay on the first floor; lockers are used daily.
- Grading & Schoology: Parents and students can monitor progress through Schoology. If there are ever questions about your child’s progress, contact the teacher directly.
- Support During Transition to the Middle School: Extra staff support the first weeks to help students navigate and settle in.
- Clubs & Activities: Wide range of after-school options to help students connect and grow!
- Personal Device Policy: Internet connected devices (watches, phones, etc.) must be off and stored in lockers during the school day.
- Transportation & Dismissal: Students may not ride the bus to a friend’s house; after-school programs run until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. on select days.
- Problem-Solving Protocol: Start by connecting with the person closest to the concern; our team is here to support.
- Orientation: This Spring, 4th grade classrooms will visit WMS. Our 5th grade teachers will visit WE, and over the summer, we will have a student-only orientation, which is planned for Thursday, August 21 (tentative).
- Stay Connected: Updates will be shared via ParentSquare over the summer. In the meantime, follow us on Instagram @WayneCentralMS!
If you have any questions after reviewing the slides, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We’re here to help and look forward to welcoming your child to Wayne Middle School in the fall!
