Student Vacations

Vacations and Requests for Work Ahead of Time

While we discourage extended absences during the academic year given the instructional impact this has, we do understand that there may be extenuating circumstances which necessitate that students may be absent due to family-based events.  While we appreciate the importance of maintaining consistency in your child's education, it's essential to acknowledge the difficulties that can arise from absences during this time.

Our teachers work diligently to plan engaging and dynamic lessons tailored to the needs and interests of their students. Lessons are often adjusted from day to day based on student performance. For this reason, please do not expect teachers to compile materials before an extended vacation. While some assignments can be shared via Schoology (link), it's essential to note that the instructional experience extends beyond mere tasks. Classroom discussions, hands-on activities, and real-time feedback are integral components of the learning process and cannot always be fully replicated outside of the classroom.

When this happens, we would like to remind our families that it is the responsibility of the student, with the support of their parents, to check Schoology regularly and make up for any missed work in a timely manner upon their return. Additionally, we urge families to ensure that students understand the material covered during their absence. While our teachers are always willing to provide support and clarification during regular class time, it is unrealistic to expect them to offer individualized instruction to students who miss school due to vacation.

We kindly ask that families refer to the district calendar (link), which is posted in the Spring of the previous school year on our District's website, when planning future vacations. By doing so, we can minimize disruptions to your child's learning experience and ensure that they receive the full benefit of their time in the classroom.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to an administrator.
