Request for Assistance (RFA) – Wayne Middle School

At Wayne Middle School, we are committed to helping every student thrive. Through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we work together—school and family—to identify concerns early and respond with the right level of support.

👨‍👩‍👧 For Families: What to Do if You're Concerned About Your Child

We strongly encourage family-school collaboration. This may include a phone call, meeting, or conference with the teacher(s) to share ideas and create a plan together. If initial interventions are not effective, contact your child’s school counselor, they are your connection to a larger support system. The counselor will connect with your child’s team of teachers to consider increasing support through more targeted or intensive approaches (Tier 2 or Tier 3).

Here’s how it works:

  1. Connect with the teacher and/or counselor to talk through your concerns.

  2. If needed, the counselor will share the information with our MTSS team.

  3. The team—made up of teachers, counselors, administrators, and specialists—will review your child’s strengths and needs.

  4. Together, we’ll determine whether additional strategies or interventions are appropriate.

Strong partnerships between families and schools are essential for student success. Don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

🧑‍🏫How Do Staff Identify Students Who May Need Support?

Our teachers and staff are constantly observing and collecting information on student progress. If a student is struggling despite the typical supports provided to all students (known as Tier 1), staff may begin the process of requesting additional help.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Teachers try in-class strategies and document what’s been done (like reteaching, small group work, behavior supports, or check-ins). Families are contacted to share what is being observed and to partner to formulate interventions/next-steps.

  2. If concerns continue, the teacher connects with a school counselor or administrator to share observations.

  3. The concern is brought to the MTSS team, where student strengths, needs, and data are reviewed.

  4. The team decides what kind of support is most appropriate and monitors the student's progress over time.

Our MTSS process is designed to ensure no student falls through the cracks, and that every learner receives the right level of support at the right time.
