Common Questions about Wayne Middle School

School doors are open at 7:28am. Students are not allowed beyond the main foyer unless supervised by a staff member. Students who arrive early must go to the cafeteria and remain there until bused students arrive. All students must be in their 1st period class by 7:40am. School ends at 2:12pm with an activity period for clubs, intramurals and extra help ending at 3:00pm. There is a 4:00pm bus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If you are late, sign in at the main office and get a late pass. If you are absent, have a parent/guardian call the nurse’s office. When you return to school, you must bring a note to the nurse that indicates your name, grade, date of absence and reason for absence.

Missing work is typically due within two days after you return to school. If you are absent for 2 days or more, your parent/guardian can call the nurses’ office and arrange to pick up work in the main office. You must see your teachers to get missing work or make up tests when you return to school.

Each student has a TEAM of teachers for ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies. All students will have additional teachers for courses such as art, music, etc. Teams change each year.

Each class is 40 minutes.

There are 3 minutes between classes, except for the passing time between 4th and 5th period. Students will have 4 minutes during that time to stop at their lockers and gather their materials for the second half of their classes. Most students have no difficulty getting to class on time.

Teachers are more flexible during the first few weeks of school, but eventually teachers will expect you to bring a pass if you are late.

There will be teachers in the hallways to help you find your way. In a few days you will know where all your classes are.

You should usually expect an hour of homework nightly. Homework is posted on the homework hotline on our website daily.

Each student has a hall and PE locker. Locker combinations for hall lockers are on students schedules. PE lockers are given out the first day of school in PE class. Students are not allowed to share lockers or give anyone else their locker combination.

Teachers are always in the hall to help students with questions or problems. If the lock is broken or the combination does not work, it will be replaced.

Get a pass from the teacher you are staying after school with and then you MUST turn that pass into the bus driver when getting on the bus to go home. Any student staying after school for any reason must be with an adult at all times.

If an after school activity is changed or canceled you are able to call your parents from the main office or teacher’s classroom. Most students will automatically get on the 2:12 bus and head home if their event is canceled.

Clothes that have inappropriate language or promote inappropriate behavior are prohibited. See school agenda for further details regarding dress code rules.

No. If someone is bothering you, let your teacher, counselor or principal know.

Yes. You should wear a helmet and bring a bike lock to secure it in the bike rack.

If it is an emergency go directly to the nurse’s office. Otherwise, you will need a pass from your teacher.

You can sign up for an appointment in the counseling office or if it is urgent, you can ask your teacher to allow you to see your counselor. If you see the counselor regularly, you will receive a pass with your appointment.

No, they are full year elective courses that you can join if interested.

You have the opportunity to do this when you get off the bus in the morning, during lunch, or after school. If it’s an emergency, students can speak with their teachers to find a reasonable resolution.

These run daily in the main entrance of the building and typically throughout the school day in classrooms. Students can ask their teachers to review announcements with them if they think they missed something.
